Hello,
I’m working with several other genderqueer folks in the san francisco bay area to create a searchable gender neutral bathroom directory. At the moment, what we have is a work in progress and only accessible through a web browser, but we'd like to think that it offers the beginnings of a great resource for those who may not feel comfortable with the rigid binary of bathrooms in our society.
Most of our locations are in the san francisco or portland, but the site will take submissions nationally, and we're working towards international support. We've only been promoting it for a few days and we already have over 100 bathrooms listed!
The project has only begun and there is still a lot of work being done to improve the scripting and layout, but you can visit and add to the
beta at safe2pee.org/beta/. When the project is stable we intend to release the scripting and bathroom data as open source, so others may benefit of it (and/or to ensure against a future demise)!
If you have any comments, ideas, feature requests or a desire to assist with the project, you may reach us at safe2pee at r i s e u p dot net
Thanks!

Re: gender neutral bathroom directory
Mon, January 8, 2007 - 12:20 PMI wonder if this is close enough, but there is one on the first floor of the Humanities Building at San Francisco State University. The only issue is that the gender neutral bathroom is right next door to a women's-only restroom, which inevitably makes the gender-free restroom used almost exclusively by male-identified people. It does have a stall and is accessible.

Fri, January 12, 2007 - 10:16 AMHey,
Just wanted to thank you for including accessability. I'm in a chair part-time, and it definitely makes it harder still to find a safe place to piss...
Cheers,
Jay

Re: gender neutral bathroom directory
Mon, February 12, 2007 - 11:47 AMThe Austin airport has special needs bathrooms that are gender neutral. It is implied that the bathrooms are for folks with disabilities and parents who need to go accompany their children into bathrooms. The bathrooms include sharps containers, baby changing stations and wheelchair accessable toilets. As long as bathrooms are gendered, I believe that folks like us are included in under the special needs umbrella.
